At Cleeve Sixth Form we offer a wide range of advanced and vocational advanced level subjects. In addition to A-Level and Applied A-Level, Cleeve also offers BTEC Nationals in Sport, Business and Music Performance. If studying for A-Level in Year 12, students are asked to select the equivalent of 4 AS levels which can be made up from both AS and Applied vocational courses. By selecting 4 subjects, it is hoped that students broaden their courses of study. In order to go onto Year 13, students are expected to gain at least a pass grade or above at AS in their 3 A2 subjects. In exceptional cases, students are able to carry on with four AS Levels into A2. Additionally all students participate in the Core Provision which will be discussed in more detail in the following pages. The wider issues of citizenship, ethics and philosophy, PSHE, emotional intelligence, higher education and careers are covered here. If studying for BTEC Nationals in Year 12 and 13, students can select single or dual courses (worth two equivalent A-levels) for both Sport and Business. This allows a degree of flexibility so that a course can be constructed to suit each student. A combination of BTEC and A-level courses can also be studied, which again allows a more personalised curriculum. In order to study in the Sixth Form at Cleeve, you have to satisfy certain entry requirements. All Heads of Department must agree to enrol the students in his/her subjects. Please see subject specific entry requirements on the subject’s insert. The Head of Sixth Form will consider any special cases on their own merit. For AS and Applied AS courses, you must have at least Grade B in 3 different subjects similar to the ones you wish to study at AS and Grade C in 2 additional different subjects. If you studied a subject at GCSE which you wish to continue studying at AS you must at the very minimum achieve a C Grade, although some subjects may insist on a B Grade due to the complexity of the work. To study BTEC courses you must have at least Grade C in 4 different subjects at GCSE. This would normally include passes in a similar subject or the subjects you wish to study for BTEC. To study a combined BTEC and A-Level course you must achieve Grade C in 4 subjects including a B in the subject you wish to carry on as an A-Level. All students will be expected to have achieved a Grade C or above in Mathematics and English Language GCSE. Failure to achieve these grades upon entry to Cleeve will result in retaking these courses in afterschool sessions in Year 12. |
