The school is now a Leadership Partner School and is recognised as a national hub for the development of outstanding leadership development and succession planning strategies. The Leadership Partner School programme is a strategic initiative jointly developed by the National College for School Leadership and the Youth Sport Trust (YST) in response to current leadership and succession planning opportunities and challenges. Through this specialism, the school has created opportunities for leadership positions for staff within the school and is offering a range of leadership development opportunities for students, support staff and teachers. Technology CollegeCleeve School provides an inclusive e-learning environment for students, staff and the wider community, and has received recognition and awards for its innovative use of ICT. The driving force for the development of this e-learning environment is Technology College Status which was first awarded to the school in 1997 and embraces the subject areas of Technology, Maths, ICT and Science. These departments lead the way in developing innovations in teaching and learning and sharing good practice throughout the school. Visitors to the school will see a vast array of technology being used within lessons to provide the most up to date and exciting resources, and to support innovative and stimulating teaching. Students are encouraged to become independent users of ICT and have access to a wide range of technology as well as their own e-portfolio and email account. Pupils are also being offered increasing access to school resources from home and will this will be a key area in the next phase of Technology College development. We have been able to extend our community links through the use of technology by hosting and developing websites for local businesses through the Bishop’s Cleeve Chamber of Commerce, and by offering ICT courses for senior citizens, and parents returning to work. |

Language CollegeIn 2006 Cleeve School achieved a second specialism in Languages following sustained high level examination results and its success as a Technology College. The specialism allows the school to focus on new developments in the teaching of languages, whilst extending opportunities to work with the wider community. We have used the status to increase our language provision and now provide Chinese as a second language to our most able Year 7 students, Spanish to KS4 and Russian and Chinese to our KS5 students. At KS4 our most able students are currently being fast tracked in French in Y10 so that they can do a second GCSE in Spanish in Y11. The opportunity to study both French and Spanish to GCSE results in a deeper understanding of language learning and the relevant cultures. Starter sessions in Arabic have also been offered as part of our community links with GCHQ and the profile of language learning has been raised through a range of events including Chinese and Spanish cultural evenings and a European cookery event. Language College Status has allowed Cleeve to develop links with primary schools to improve language ability and to extend the most able. Cleeve teachers are currently working with 5 primary partners this input at KS2 has improved students entry into languages in Cleeve and has helped us to introduce early setting in Languages in Year 7. Secondary partnerships have also been developed through the status and involve language support at 2 partner schools. |
